There is nothing better that a little side bar vacation….while you’re on vacation! I have always driven to Colorado through Raton Pass in New Mexico. Since this year’s RTR 08 began in Durango, we decided to change things up a bit and go over to Albuquerque and then up to Durango. This of course would take us on……………..

Route 66
Being such a famous landmark and one that had eluded me for 44 years, we had to take some detours.

Cadillac Ranch

The Route 66 Diner

The Route 66 Auto Museum
I think the coolest thing of all was seeing ‘Historic Route 66’ on the Garmin screen!
So we are out there getting our kicks while the Coach was mumbling something about a warning light. I don’t know what he was so worried about.. we are the ones that had to deal with the banditos!

Then to Durango for Ride The Rockies 2008!
The Hammer

If you look closely at the Cadillac second from right, I think you will find my son's name on the trunk. We love stopping there and climbing on the cars. It makes for a nice break. - Russell
